Poetic Expressions of the Self

Our journals hold bits and pieces of ourselves. So often they sit on our shelves ready to unveil their beauty and secrets to us. What if we took the book form and created an art journal that could be shared and displayed (if, and when, we wanted to share?) How do we let go and create authentic and vibrant pages that buzz with our creative spirit?

You will create an accordion fold book with layers of paint, paper, text and more. Learn how to open up authentically and visually onto your pages. We will also discuss other possible structures before we work on the pages. Step outside of your box and comfort zone in this creative and enriching workshop.

Supply list: an apron, scissors, a small selection of favorite collage ephemera (think about reading this when choosing your images and papers), bone folder, cork back metal ruler, a full roll of paper towels OR old rags, permanent black ink pad (if you have one), a container for your paint water,  1" brush to glue and paint (I like chip or bristle brushes) as well as a few, smaller, detailed brushes, a few of your favorite glue sticks (large glue sticks will last you longer), roll of waxed paper OR an old catalog or magazine to glue on (if you don't want to use all of your waxed paper for this.)

Sunday, October 16th

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Brushstrokes: Playful, Paint Applications On Journal Pages

Let's get messy! Explore, experiment and play with paint in this colorful and fun workshop. We'll start by collaging our pages and then it's time to pull out the paint! You will learn everything I know about acrylics, mediums as well as a plethora of ways to apply acrylics to our journal pages (or canvas, walls, etc...) Explore color, texture and depth as you create original and luscious pages.

You will also love making your own unique sampler to remember all of these techniques later on.
