Happy May, everyone! Margaret here with my latest Monday Matchup to help us welcome this new month. I paired a Pelikan M205 Blue-Marbled with Diamine Regency Blue and really enjoyed them together. I drew inspiration for this piece from the start of a new month! Aren't fresh starts an exciting thing? Whether it's a new day, a new month or a new year, it gives us the chance to start over, and, oftentimes, that can feel like a good thing.
I started by outlining everything in pencil first. Overall, I knew I wanted to keep things simple, but I also wanted to vary up the lettering a bit. I worked on the flowers first, and then traced the lettering with the medium Pelikan nib. I'm happy to say I now know how to draw simple flowers, and I'm really happy with how they turned out! Once those were done, I added the flourishes on each side by using the Caran d'Ache Museum Aquarelle Waterbrush (Coming soon to Goulet Pens!) by dipping the brush in the ink and some water. I layered on more ink on some of the leaves to darken the color on the Tomoe River paper I was using. I liked seeing the difference in the ink when using the Pelikan medium nib and the waterbrush. When water was added to it, it lightened up, but when writing with the medium nib, it's a nice deep blue.
The Pelikan M205 Blue-Marbled is a really elegant looking pen, perfect for using in a professional setting. I really like the design on the barrel, and think the silver trim complements it nicely. The M205 is a fairly small pen, so I preferred using it posted. If you're looking for a small pen, or have small hands, this may be a good size for you. The medium steel nib was smooth and easy to write with. I loved this ink! The sheen that I achieved with it on Tomoe River paper was just beautiful. I enjoyed using it while creating this piece, but I think this ink would be even better suited for the office or a professional setting.
You can find the Pelikan M205 Blue-Marbled at GouletPens.com for $132. Diamine Regency Blue is available in a 40ml bottle for $15.95 or as a 2ml sample for $1.75.
