Hey pen friends! It's that time of year when we look back on all the great things that happened this past year. There were a ton of new products released throughout 2016, so it was tough to narrow it down to our favorite 10, but here we go.....
10. Namiki Maki-e fountain pens
When we started this business just over seven years ago, we never dreamed we'd be able to sell such beautiful pens of this caliber, but here we are. The craftsmanship that goes into creating each of these pens is something that resonates deeply within us.
9. Montegrappa Fortuna in Copper Mule
Complete with a matching copper mug, this pen really picked up on a trend -- or rather, two trends: Moscow Mules drinks, and copper pens. This was truly the year of metal pens, and people really seem to enjoy the personalization that the copper patina creates. Available in fine through broad nibs.
8. Visconti Rembrandt Special Ops
This pen was super hot when it came out earlier this year. Featuring a unique olive green body paired with a stealthy black nib and trim, you guys definitely dug this one. It pairs really nicely with the Army Green color of the Leuchtturm1917 notebooks that also came out this year.
7. Pilot Vanishing Point Decimo
We had been waiting for years for this pen model to be available in the US market, and 2016 was finally our year. Essentially a slimmer version of the clickable Vanishing Point, the Decimo comes in several beautiful elegant muted colors.
6. Delta Unica Matte Black
A matte black body with black trim, this Goulet exclusive was released towards the beginning of the year and we had trouble keeping it in stock! It's clear the matte black stealthy pen trend is still going strong. Available in fine and medium nibs, or swap out for another favorite #6 size nib.
5. Karas Kustoms
While this brand isn't new for 2016, it was certainly new to Goulet. We were proud to start carrying the Fountain K and Ink fountain pens at the start of this past year, and you all have definitely been responding well to the colorful metal patterns. The customization feature, to be able to mix/match your grip to your body, is something really special with these.
4. Conklin Nighthawk
Another Goulet exclusive, these stealthy pens have been flying off our shelves and into your shopping carts. We were excited to introduce this matte black carbon fiber pen a few weeks ago, all decked out with matching black trim and our Goulet black nib. The first 500 are numbered, but are going fast!
3. Pilot Kakuno
This cute little pen was new to the US this year, after years of waiting! Another affordable entry-level pen from Pilot, the standout feature is the adorable steel nib with a smiling face (medium) or a winking face (fine).
2. Edison Nouveau Premiere in Water Lily (Spring edition)
We've collaborated with Edison to release a special edition Premiere every season for the last 3+ years, and this spring's edition certainly got the town talking. The Water Lily (pictured at the bottom) material, or as it was affectionately known on social media as "Unicorn Barf", was one of our most popular to date. This is a tease, of course, because it's no longer available. Guess you'll just have to see what 2017 brings!
1. Lamy Safari in Dark Lilac
While not a new pen model, the color was probably the most anticipated special edition color ever. The Lamy Safari has been around for over 20 years, with a variety of standard colors and a new special edition every year, but there had never been a purple. Until 2016. The dark matte finish with the black trim was just icing on the cake... really well done, Lamy, well done. We do still have fountain pens available, but the matching ink sold out months ago.
So there's our list of our top 10 favorite new pens of 2016. Do you agree? What do you think is missing from our list?
Write On,
Rachel Goulet
